Luxembourg iPhone 5 speculation rife
(JB) Speculation is rife about the much-anticipated launch of Apple's iPhone 5 in Luxembourg.
Forums and websites seem to concur that the brand new state-of-the-art mobile technology should be launched in the US on September 7.
But as to when it will be available in the Grand Duchy remains less certain and, if demand for the iPhone 5 is anywhere near as high as that for the iPad, the country could face some delays.
Only one of Luxembourg's network providers would comment on when the phone would be launched within the country, with a spokesperson suggesting that it would “probably be around September”.
Fans had hoped that the exact launch date would be revealed at Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference at the beginning of June because it was at this conference in 2010 that the iPhone 4 release date was revealed.
No such announcement was made however, industry insiders say that Apple is gearing up to build 25 million handsets to respond to expected demand and earlier this year it placed huge orders for components.
As to the functionality of the new handset, one of the new features is a gesture interface with the same functionality as the iPhone and iPad's hardware buttons. It is also expected to have a slimmer form.
