(CS/DL) A new infrastructure project in Kirchberg is aimed at facilitating access to the motorway and ease congestion at the “Serra” roundabout near Luxexpo.

Construction is already underway and expected to be completed by mid-2015. A bypass will lead motorists directly from Kirchberg's main road, the Avenue John F Kennedy, tp the A1 in direction of Arlon, avoiding the roundabout completely.

The area is usually heavily congested during rush-hour, and especially evening traffic, as drivers access motorways in direction of both Belgium and France through just one exit in the large roundabout.

In the future drivers heading in direction of the Cents tunnel and Arlon will be diverted through a 360-metre underpass to then join the motorway. Access via the roundabout will remain open, however, leaving drivers with a choice and hopefully clearer roads on both alternatives.

The tunnel at the end of Avenue John F. Kennedy, underneath the roundabout and in direction of the Trier motorway, will remain in place.

But, the improvements to the road network may be short-lived, since the arrival of the tram will make a complete overhaul necessary. In a first phase, the tram is mean to stop at the Serra roundabout, with plans for it to continue to the airport from there.
