(CS) A pedestrian bridge across Boulevard John F Kennedy near the Auchan supermarket and shopping centre has been demolished.

The bridge was built to link the two sides of the major street, which is home to a number of offices, but also restaurants, the Auchan shopping centre and Utopolis cinema.

However, many pedestrians have taken to jaywalking across the street, which is in a 70km/h zone, instead of taking the stairs to cross the bridge. In wet or wintery conditions the bridge was often slippery. Anyone crossing the bridge in heels also faced potential trouble because of the metal grid panels used for construction.

Additionally, the bridge was inaccessible for wheelchair users or people with prams, who instead had to use the crossing further down the road from the bus stop located right next to the bridge.

The bridge is now set to be replaced by a zebra crossing with traffic lights, according to RTL.
