Leopard Trek's Tour de France team revealed
(JB) Team LEOPARD TREK has revealed its wonder team who will accompany Andy and Fränk Schleck for the Luxembourg team’s first ever Tour de France.
Andy Schleck, Fränk Schleck, Fabian Cancellara, Linus Gerdemann, Maxime Monfort, Jakob Fuglsang, Jens Voigt, Stuart O’Grady and Joost Posthuma will be representing LEOPARD TREK on the roads of France for the most important event on the cycling calendar.
Hundreds of fans of the Luxembourg based team wished the nine bike riders the best of luck, sending them off to France with a big round of applause when they made a public presentation in Luxembourg city centre on Tuesday.
“It is no secret that we go to the Tour to try to win it,” said Team Manager Kim Andersen during the team presentation. “We have high ambitions for this team. We will target the overall and possibly even win some stages on the way to Paris.”
The young team's confidence is perhaps well-placed. LEOPARD TREK has experienced a number of wins this year with Swiss rider Fabian Cancellara winning the Tour de Luxembourg prologue, the E3 Prijs Harelbeke and stage seven of the Tirreno Adriatico. Luxembourg's Frank Schleck was overall Criterium International winner as well as winner of the first stage.
Linus Gerdemann made his mark for the team just weeks ago when he was crowned overall winner of the Tour de Luxembourg and won the second stage. Favourite to win the Tour de France Andy Shleck will be feeling the pressure ahead of the Tour start date. He came second in the event two years in a row in 2009 and 2010.
The Tour de France begins Saturday July 2 and runs until July 24. Now in its 98th year, the Tour will be made up of 21 stages, covering a total distance of 3,430.5 kilometres.
