Luxembourg looking for volunteers to boost medical staff
Luxembourg is calling on doctors, nurses, carers and administrative staff to sign up as back-up to support medical staff in hospitals and field clinics set up to treat patients suffering from the Covid-19 virus.
Trained medical staff still practicing or in retirement but also medical students are required to sign up to the list online until midnight on 24 March, the health ministry said in a statement.
The ministry is also looking for cleaners and volunteers to help crèches that remain open for medical staff as well as staff to fulfil administrative tasks at some of the new treatment centres being put in place by the government. All volunteer positions can be consulted online.
Luxembourg would not rule out using expat medical staff who have been unable to practice because of language restrictions, health minister Paulette Lenert said in an interview with Radio 100,7 last week. Relevant profiles would be contacted as part of the evaluation process, a spokeswoman told the Luxembourg Times.
