(CS/jlc) A Luxembourg resident has been accused of causing wildfires in Portugal, which have so far killed more than 15 people, after a collaborator was arrested in Portugal, confessing to laying several fires in the forests of Caramulo, according to media reports.

“Correio da Manhã” reports that Fernando M was arrested by police on Saturday. The 20-year-old reportedly confessed to laying several fires near Vouzela and Tondela together with a 28-year-old accomplice.

According to Fernando, the Luxembourg resident wanted revenge for a ticket he was issued by Portuguese police a few days earlier for driving without a valid licence.

An international arrest warrant has been issued against Patrick L, who is reportedly back in Luxembourg.

Fernando has posted several pictures of the wildfires on his Facebook profile. He is also thought to have left a message on fire fighter Ana Rita Perreira's profile. The young woman died last week battling the blaze.

Dozens of fires are still ragin out of control, with 52 people arrested for arson so far.
