Major new development unveiled for Kirchberg
(AF/JB) More homes are planned for Kirchberg with a new complex of buildings containing flats and shops to be built opposite the Philharmonie.
The two towers will be constructed by Allfin group from 2016 to 2017, who have declined to comment on the budget for the project.
Noting that the district is dominated by “offices and includes too few businesses and houses,” Infrastructure Minister François Bausch explained at a press conference on Thursday that a competition was launched in June 2014 by the “Fonds d'urbanisation et d'aménagement” in Kirchberg.
To be eligible, projects had to include an architectural style in harmony with other buildings in the area, a business concept, accommodation and offices.
According to the designs, a 21-storey tower will provide 20,000 m2 of housing, equivalent to 150 different-sized apartments.
The shopping mall will span 6,500 m2, comprising 17 shop units, in which already 41 companies have expressed an interest. Finally, 6,800 m2 of offices are also planned.
The developers said that the mall should give priority to shops which will serve the occupants of the development and people in the immediate surrounding area.
These should include a food store, florist, hairdresser, fitness club, bar and restaurant and public square.
The foundation stone is expected to be laid in early 2016, and construction should last one year.
