A man was killed in a tragic incident when the caravan he was staying in, burst into flames on Wednesday night in the north of the country.

The incident was reported to have happened at about 10.40pm between the town of Heiderscheid and Heiderscheid-Grund, by the roadside. The driver had parked-up and was inside the caravan at the time the blaze occurred.

Firefighters arrived quickly at the scene and flames were brought under control and extinguished. Once an examination of the caravan wreckage was possible, the gruesome discovery of a dead man was made.

Details of why the car and caravan were parked by the road, the identity of the man, or how the fire started are currently unknown but an investigation has now been launched.

No other casualties were reported in the incident.
