Mountain bike theft spate in Luxembourg

Police warn that mountain bike thefts from people's homes are on the increase in Luxembourg, with thieves seeking out big brands.

Police warn that mountain bike thefts from people's homes are on the increase in Luxembourg, with thieves seeking out big brands.

According to a press release from Luxembourg police, thefts of such bikes rose from May, peaking around August and September.

In particular, the thieves stole specialist brand bikes like Cube, Stevens and Bulls, mostly by breaking into private residences or stealing from public areas such as garages.

Police say that the thieves generally strike during the evening or overnight. So far similar thefts have been reported in Bettembourg, Pétange, Bascharage, Mamer, Strassen, Mersch, Grevenmacher, Bissen, Keispelt, Tuntange, Noerdange, Hobscheid, Kehlen, Luxembourg, Moutfort and Hautcharage.

Bike owners are urged to ensure their bikes are securely stored overnight.
