(ADW) The next US Ambassador for Luxembourg is looking highly likely to be Robert A. Mandell.

Although this is still to be confirmed by the US senate, it seems that Mandell's new home could well become the Grand Duchy. His nomination was announced by US President Barack Obama.

Mandell, a staunch Obama supporter, hails from Florida where he is CEO of several real estate companies, namely Greater Properties Inc. and Meritage Homes. He has been donating funds to the US Democrats for many years, notably he made a $50,000 donation to Obama's inaugaration committee.

Obama himself recently praised Mandell's "competence and commitment" in a press release.

Although Mandell does not have ambassadorial experience, he is a member of Obama's Export Council, a group that advises the White House on international trade.

The position of US Ambassador for Luxembourg has been empty since February when previous ambassador Cynthia Stroum quit the role under a cloud of accusations regarding “heavy-handed” bullying methods in her work ethics.

This change therefore will mean a second ambassador in the US embassy to Luxembourg in as many years.
