(CS/TJ/jsf) Luxembourg police on Monday launched a large-scale search operation in a wooded area near Linger and Pétange, after receiving information from a member of the public about a one-month-old infant reported missing last week.

Bianka Bisdorff was born on June 6 and reported missing by family on July 3.

Police have not commented on the circumstances of the disappearance of the infant, with the appeal for information addressed more towards friends and family members who may have information on the whereabouts of the baby.

Police have not commented whether the baby could have been kidnapped. They have also neither confirmed nor denied that the baby disappeared in a family argument.

Bianka was not found during Monday's search, which involved more than 50 officers and saw a helicopter fly over the area and frogmen search a nearby river.

Police are continuing their investigation. Anyone with useful information is urged to call 113 or +352 4997-5500
