The right for foreigners to vote in national elections should be a key issue for the forthcoming elections, a foreign workers' association has said.

ASTI would like to see foreign nationals living in and working in Luxembourg given access to vote in national elections. While, it is too soon to change anything for October's legislative elections, the group at least wants parties to make a stand on the issue.

"Luxembourgers and foreigners have problems and interests for which they would like to have answers," ASTI president Laura Zuccoli told RTL on Tuesday morning.

The association would like foreign residents to be automatically included in the electoral lists in the same way as Luxembourgers and to be able to stand at candidates.

Currently, foreign nationals can only participate in national elections if they acquire dual nationality.

"Much of society is not politically represented while in this day and age we must create a sense of solidarity," Ms Zuccoli said.
