Route du Nord to open 2015
Motorists should be able to travel between Ettelbruck and Luxembourg in a fraction of the time it currently takes when a long-awaited road opens in 2015.
Infrastructure minister Claude Wiseler announced the opening date in a response to a parliamentary question on the subject of the north-bound road, which has been in construction for several years.
Last December a budget extension was approved by the Governing Council to fund the project. Despite increased funds, the deadline for completion of the works is not expected to be brought forward.
Construction is due to be completed in December 2014, following which there will be a two to six month testing period before it is opened to traffic.
Mr Wiseler said: "We will do our utmost to ensure that work can be completed as soon as possible. However, the unexpected is always possible at this stage, be it on an administrative level or in the tendering procedures."
The road connection, which has been many years in the making, is expected to massively reduce congestion between Luxembourg and Lorentzweiler.
