Luxembourg's most famous annual fairground, the Schueberfouer, kicked off to a sunny start at the official opening ceremony on Friday.

The opening day of the 673rd edition saw intrepid fair-goers come out in their thousands to try one of the new rides, revisit old favourites or hang out with friends at the many food and game stands.

The fair was opened with a traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony by city mayor Xavier Bettel and the marching of the sheep, believed to be a nod to the fair's agricultural roots and the days when a sheep was offered as a prize.

For those who missed the opener, don't panic. The fair will remain at Luxembourg's Glacis car park, in Limpertsberg, until September 11.
