The Luxembourg minimum wage has risen by 0.1 percent, an increase which will be applied retroactively to wage earner from January 1, 2015.

The rise means that unskilled workers earning the minimum wage will earn an additional 1.93 euros per month, bringing their pay packet up to 1,922.95 euros.

Skilled workers receive a 2.33 euro rise, bringing their monthly salary to 2,307.54 euros.

Parliament voted on the increase on Tuesday, a month later than initially planned, which is why the increase will be applied retraoctively.

The minimum wage is adjusted every two years in Luxembourg.

The Grand Duchy offers the highest minimum wage of all EU member states. It is followed in order of wage by Monaco, San Marino, Belgium and Ireland.

Luxembourg Union LCGB complained that the increase would not compensate the loss of purchasing power caused by the 2 percent VAT increase introduced this year.
