Shorter delays at technical inspection centres
Visits by vehicle owners using Luxembourg's technical inspection centres have been reduced to around 30 minutes on average, the service said.
The Société Nationale de Contrôle Technique (SNCT) said that because of its online and telephone appointment booking service, the average duration of a visit to a testing centre is around 32 minutes, from arrival to departure.
The duration is a far cry from scenes witnessed at the testing centre in Sandweiler two years ago when motorists faced delays of minimum four hours to have their vehicles checked for roadworthiness.
“It follows that customers without appointments may sometimes not be served in a satisfactory condition and that these customers will experience significantly longer delays,” the SNT said in a statement. It added that it reserved the right to see only clients with appointments on busy days.
In Luxembourg, all vehicle owners are automatically issued reminder letters up to eight weeks before the vehicle is due to be checked. The letter asks them to book an appointment for an inspection.
The service strongly urges them to book within two weeks after receipt of the notice because of high demand. Around 90 percent of all vehicle checks are done by appointment, the SNCT said.
Vehicle owners may also now book appointments with partner garages which are accredited to do the technical inspection.
