Sunny and warm spring with not enough rain
(CS) This year's spring season was the 10th sunniest since weather recordings started in Luxembourg in 1947, with less rain than usual and slightly warmer temperatures.
A weather roundup published by Meteolux on Wednesday shows that overall, March, April and May saw good weather in Luxembourg.
There were 615.2 hours of sunshine recorded by the national weather service, significantly more than the 1981 to 2010 long-term average of 520 hours.
There was also less rain. Just 116.3 litres per square metre of rain fell during the spring months this year, just 56 percent of the average yearly rainfall of 206 litres per square metre recorded between 1981 and 2010.
The average temperature of 9.5°C on the other hand were only slightly above the long-term average of 9°C. The warmed day was May 12 when the thermostat hit 25.1°C. The coldest temperature (-1.8°C) was measured on March 23.
On the whole there were strong fluctuations in temperature, especially between night and daytime, the report said. Storm Niklas meanwhile brought winds of up to 97.9km/h to Luxembourg, measured at the weather station in Findel.
