Technical fault sparks van blaze
(ADW) No doubt due to a technical fault, a van burst into flames on Sunday evening on the A64 just over the border in Germany.
A Luxembourg van driver, just 2km after the viaduct on the German side of the border, was taken by surprise when he noticed smoke coming from the bonnet of the vehicle and immediately pulled over to the hard shoulder and called for assistance.
But it wasn’t long before the entire van was engulfed in flames, and fire fighters at the scene had to tackle the blaze with foam. The fire was brought under control but not before the van was reduced to a complete wreckage, causing a total loss of about €15,000.
The motorway, during the fire and the salvage operation that followed, was completely blocked to traffic cause a 2km tailback. Fortunately nobody was injured in the incident.
