The General Secretary of the Democratic Party has resigned
The General Secretary of Luxembourg's Democratic Party (DP), Marc Ruppert, has resigned.
Ruppert gives personal reasons for his departure: "The role as General Secretary has given me a lot of pleasure, but it is also very time consuming," he said in a statement, adding he now wanted to concentrate on his family life. The 33-year-old will become a father for the second time in a few months.
It is not yet known who will succeed Ruppert. The DP will deal with succession in the coming weeks. Party President Corinne Cahen regrets the decision: "Marc Ruppert has been working hard for the party over the past two years, and I would like to thank him for his great commitment and I am pleased that despite this decision, he will continue to be active in the party."
Ruppert had only been General Secretary for the DP since December 2015. The former JDL president took over the post of Gilles Baum and was considered a political whiz kid. He enjoyed a good reputation and considered the protege of party president Cahen.
Ruppert was a candidate in the communal elections on October 8 on the DP list for the city of Luxembourg, but was not elected to the communal council.
