Thieves' pipe-dreams dashed
Two men were caught attempting to steal a haul of copper piping from a construction site on Rue de Bragance in the capital on Saturday night.
Unfortunately for them, as they loaded their van, an attentive local resident spotted the two men and, thinking they were behaving suspiciously, reported the incident to police.
A police patrol arrived at the scene and agreed, catching the men red-handed, with the van half-loaded with several items of copper piping and other copper products that clearly came from the construction site.
The copper, considered to be of considerable value, and the vehicle were seized and subsequently a criminal case was launched against the two men.
Construction sites across the Grand Duchy are currently under particular surveillance as they are seen as targets for theft while the "congé collective" or collective holidays in the construction industry run until September. Residents should keep an eye out and notify police of any suspicious activity.
