Thieves ram jewellery store with truck
In what would have made a good action scene in a film, a truck early Thursday morning was rammed into a jewellers shop Bascharage.
It was at about 4:30am on Thursday when a loud crash awakened neighbours of the jewellery shop who immediately alerted police.
A patrol arrived minutes after the warning only to discover that the perpetrators had already fled scene.
Piecing together the evidence, the police could ascertain that the truck had reversed into the building at high speed smashing into the front display window. Through the resulting crack that appeared in the façade, the thieves were able to squeeze into the shop, steal several items of jewellery before fleeing on foot, disappearing without a trace, all within the space of 2-3 minutes.
Police later discovered that the abandoned truck had recently been stolen nearby.
A manhunt was immediately launched for the suspects and joining the local police, was a canine unit as well as a police helicopter. However their search proved unsuccessful.
Police from Esch sur Alzette are now dealing with the investigation and are appealing to the public with any information to call the emergency number: 113
