(JB) Two people were showered with oil, thought to have been jettisoned by a plane, as they left the social security building in Gasperich on Tuesday.

While freak rain showers are normal and even expected in Luxembourg, one shower on the route d'Esch was definitely out of the ordinary.

According to Luxembourg daily L'essentiel, the car park in front of the Assurance Sociales building was briefly showered with an oily substance at around 12.30pm.

The bizarre occurrence left one man drenched in oil and a second person received some splashes to the face. According to police, no-one was injured, however traces of the substance were found on 10 cars parked nearby.

It is common for aircraft with a heavy cargo to jettison fuel before landing though such liquids generally evaporate in mid-air reducing any environmental effects.

According to L'essentiel neither the Civil Aviation Authority nor the Air Navigation Administration could explain the incident.
