Truck sheds load in tyre blow-out accident
(ADW) A truck travelling on the A3 motorway between Aire de Berchem and Croix de Gasperich late Wednesday afternoon tipped over and shed its load of paving stones across the carriageway in an incident that could have been a lot worse.
It was at about 3pm when a large heavy goods truck belonging to a building materials company, suffered a tyre blow-out puncture.
The driver attempted to slow down and steer the vehicle onto the hard shoulder, however in doing so, lost control of the truck and the trailer tipped over. The heavy load of pallets stacked with paving stones came loose and fell off the back of the truck scattering across the motorway lanes for a distance of about 100 metres. The trailer itself then flipped over coming to a halt upside down.
The situation could have been a lot worse, but fortunately traffic following the truck did not hit the paving stones.
According to police reports, nobody was injured in the incident.
Emergency services were quickly on the scene to sweep the stones off the motorway onto the hard shoulder and secure the truck. However, this was not before a long traffic jam formed and at 5pm ACL reported a 5km tailback.
