Luxembourg unemployment at 6.9 percent

Unemployment in Luxembourg grew to 6.9 percent in May, up slightly from 6.7 percent in April and rising by 0.9 percent compared with the same month last year.

Unemployment in Luxembourg grew to 6.9 percent in May, up slightly from 6.7 percent in April and rising by 0.9 percent compared with the same month last year.

According to figures published by Luxembourg's Employment Ministry, the number of jobseekers registered at job centre ADEM reached 16,470, marking a 17.2 percent rise compared with May 2012.

The number of jobseekers receiving full unemployment benefits fell to 7,224 people (down from 7,314 in April 2013).

Meanwhile, the total number of people affected by a job retention measure fell from last April's rate to 4,650. This, however, marked a rise of 0.5 percent over the year.

New vacant posts declared with ADEM rose, with 2,414 positions recorded in May 2013, up 331 compared with May 2012. The number of posts which remained vacant at the end of the month grew to 2,618.
