Luxembourg unemployment falls in August
Unemployment fell slightly in Luxembourg last August, when 6.9 percent of the working population were on the dole.
While the drop from July's 7 percent is only small, it shows a return to rates recorded in May and June this year.
However, the rate rose considerably over the course of a year with unemployment recorded at 6.1 percent in August 2012.
Jobseeker numbers rising
The number of jobseekers registered with job centre the ADEM rose to 16,526, a figure which grew by 15.2 percent over a year.
The number of people receiving unemployment benefits also rose to 7,388 by the end of August, a 15.6 percent increase over a year.
Meanwhile, the number of people subject to a job retention plan fell 1.5 percent over the year with a total 4,530 people recorded in August 2013.
Job numbers falling
Altogether, 1,780 new vacancies were declared at the ADEM by the end of August 2013, 99 fewer than the same month in 2012. However, the number of unfilled positions by the end of the month rose to 2,637.
