Video captures Hamilius demolition
(CS) Demolition work at the former Hamilius complex is nearing completion with only two buildings left standing, as a timelapse video of the impressive project shows.
The block between Boulevard Royal, Rue Aldringen, the Grand Rue and the former Hamilius bus station has nearly vanished. Demolition began in March and is set to be completed by the end of the year for construction to begin in 2016.
Only the Centre Hamilius tower, facing the former bus station, remains to be demolished, although there is plenty of rubble that needs clearing at the site.
House number 49 on Boulevard Royal meanwhile will not be razed as owners refused to make way for the Royal Hamilius development. Their house will be integrated into the new complex with a new exterior.
The City of Luxembourg installed a camera to film construction as it progressed, with a timelapse video showing the near-complete demolition works.
The new Royal Hamilius will include a department store and supermarket, as well as restaurants, shops, offices and flats. The underground car park will also be refurbished. The complex will open progressively between 2018 and 2019.
