VW leads Luxembourg's automotive market
(CS) Volkswagen remains Luxembourg's top selling brand, as the automobile market sees a slight increase with more second hand vehicles registered than in previous years.
Statistics from the Société nationale de contrôle technique (SNCT) show that 49,881 cars were newly registered in the Grand Duchy last year marking a slight increase of 0.32% in comparison to 2010.
Volkswagen took a share of 14.48% with 7,222 new registrations of its cars, marking an increase since 2010, when the brand also reigned in top position. Best-selling new car continued to be the VW Golf, followed by the VW Polo and the Renault Mégane.
The top three brands also included Audi (4,642 registrations) and BMW (4,367).
More cars were imported this year, with 6,056 vehicles purchased abroad and introduced into the Grand Duchy.
Also significantly on the rise is the number of second hand cars registered, rising by 7.69% to 48,230.
On the whole some 484,293 vehicles, including cars, motorcycles, agricultural machines and more, were registered in Luxembourg in 2011, making the total number of cars registered in the country rise by over 8,200 to 345,540.
