Worker suffers spinal injuries after fall
(ADW) Moersdorf near Wasserbillig was the scene of a work accident on Tuesday morning, leaving a man with serious back and spinal injuries.
The man was working with heavy machinery when he slipped and fell backwards down into a 3-metre deep pit, bouncing off several rocks as he fell.
The fall meant the man, who was unable to move due to his back injuries, had to be carefully and painstakingly freed by rescue workers. He was then given medical treatment from an ambulance that arrived at the scene, before the decision was made to call in Luxembourg Air Rescue and fly him to Kirchberg hospital.
Details regarding the full extent of the man’s injuries are not known at this stage.
In all, the ambulance services and volunteer fire department from Mertert-Wasserbillig were at the scene as well as an emergency doctor from the Luxembourg City, Air Rescue helicopter and police from Grevenmacher.
