Youngsters in petition scam
Youngsters stole a shopkeeper's smartphone while claiming to gather signatures for a petition.
The incident occurred in the Grand Rue, in Luxembourg city on Wednesday at noon. It is the second scam of its kind to take place in recent weeks, following a theft in bar in Esch sur Alzette.
According to police, three young men entered the city centre computer shop where a smartphone had been left on the counter. They placed a clipboard over the phone while talking to the shopkeeper, under the guise of taking down information. They then took the concealed Smartphone as they left the store.
Police are warning residents of the well-rehearsed scam, which can take place in restaurants, pubs or shops. Residents are advised not to leave smartphones and valuables on display in public areas.
