Machtum holds corker of a wine festival
The traditional wine festival of Machtum, in the east of Luxembourg, took place at the weekend with an exhibition, music and of course, lots of wine.
The 2017 "Wäin Schmaachen" as it is known, was the 33rd edition and began last Thursday with the opening of an exhibition.
Friday was all about music with the Rock de Schleek festival attracting younger visitors with an impressive line-up of local acts.
Festivities continued on Saturday with much local wine consumption, but on Sunday the festival took a more traditional turn. A special celebratory mass was held by priest Jos Mathgen and with entertaining songs by the well-known choir of Sainte-Cécile de Diekirch.
Winegrowers placed several bottles of their wines in front of the alter so that they may be blessed during the celebration.
After the mass, the 'Schliikeplaz', Machtum's main square, gradually filled with visitors accompanied by the Leidelenger Musikussen orchestra, and more wine.
