A man has been hospitalised after he was found on the bed of the Alzette river this morning.

A man has been hospitalised after he was found on the bed of the Alzette river this morning.

The injured man was discovered on the mud embankments of the river running through Clausen in Luxembourg City.

Firefighters found him at around 5am and concluded that he had fallen five metres from a nearby bridge.

A rescue operation was launched involving 11 people and five vehicles to bring the man to safety because of the inaccessible area where the man was found.

The patient was said to be suffering serious injuries, according to the fire service.
