Meet the Expats: Maria Anniina Seppä
Finnish national Maria Anniina Seppä, 23, is finishing a Bachelor in European studies and English literature at the University of Luxembourg.
What brought you to Luxembourg?
During my gap year I came here to work as an au pair for a Finnish family that I got to know through my old teacher, who was working at the European School. Later I worked for an Irish family as well. I really fell in love with this country so I enrolled myself to University of Luxembourg the following year and have been here ever since.
What do you like most about your life in Luxembourg?
I like the vast amount of different nationalities that I come across in my everyday life at the university and the coffee place where I work part time as a barista. I think it's truly amazing that in one day I can meet ten different people from ten different countries. One really doesn't have to travel far away to discover different cultures.
If you could change one thing about Luxembourg, what would it be?
The expensive housing prices, as they are definitely not affordable for students. We are lucky that university offers such good housing opportunities for its students.
What tips would you give new arrivals?
I always like to encourage people to do as much networking as possible since it's easy to meet like-minded people here in Luxembourg. For Fins there's an organisation called Finlux that's quite active and organises events and get-togethers for Finnish expats – definitely worth discovering.
