(ADW) A massive police operation was launched by Trier police on Thursday afternoon in search of a 3 year old girl who went missing in the border town of Langsur just inside Germany.

A moment of distraction for the father was all it took before he discovered that his little girl had left the house on her pedaless bike without him.

He frantically searched the neighbourhood but the little girl could not be found. In desperation the man called the local police.

Due to the multiple hazards in the area, including proximity to the banks of a river, the German police immediately sprang into action with Luxembourg officers also helping the search.

A police helicopter and specialised sniffer dogs were drafted in to help the hunt for the 3-year-old.

Thanks to an eye witness the girl was later spotted on a playground in Wasserbillig. Staff at a restaurant nearby looked after the frightened child until her relieved father was able to come and pick her up.
