More holidays for everybody in Luxembourg
(sth) – A public petition (nr. 762) asking for at least 30 official holidays per year for every employee in Luxembourg reached the quorum to be discussed in Parliament after only two days.
The petition submitted by Denny Kanizsa wants to “create a higher quality of life for everyone and balance the difference between the public and private sector”. The author wants to have a minimum of 30 official holidays to be introduced for everybody working in Luxembourg regardless of being active in the public or private sector. The argument used is that “those working in the private sector pay their taxes the same way those working in the public sector do”.
The author gives the example that public servants have a total of 32 holidays per year, 34 starting from age 50 and 36 starting from age 55. As opposed to this, the legal minimum required in the private sector at this moment stands at 25.
The petition reached the necessary quorum of 4,500 signatures to be discussed in Parliament after merely two days. This is twice as fast as the Luxembourgish language petition of Lucien Welter, which needed four days for this. As many as 6,900 people have signed the petition up until the moment this article was written.
