More members and supporters for Amnesty International
(MH) Support for Amnesty International Luxembourg grew considerably in 2014, with membership rising 50 percent and residents volunteering to fight violations of human rights.
During a press conference on Wednesday, Amnesty International Luxembourg presented its balance sheet for 2014, which has proved to be a promising year for the organisation.
While it welcomed 134 new members in 2014, it also expanded its online presence, with more than 2,139 Facebook likes and 1,127 twitter followers.
As 2014 proved to be a challenging year on an international scale, the organisation developed action plans to tackle three major problems: gender-based violence, torture and people in danger.
The outcome of last year's action plans has proved to be successful, with over 584 people rescued thanks to numerous signatures and petitions started by the organisation.
In collaboration with the “Oeuvre nationale de Secours Grande-Duchesse”, the organisation ran 29 workshops in schools across the country, with the aim to educate young adolescents about human rights.
As part of the project “Education aux droits humains”, 2,275 students launched a total of 11 action plans and managed to collect over 600 signatures.
