Work is underway on an extension to Luxembourg City's Conservatoire, a key site where hundreds of students have taken music classes during the last 30 years.

The Merl-based building will expand on its southern side where a new, multipurpose and energy-saving structure designed by “Christian Bauer Associés” will be built with a new courtyard.

The extension will include six Jazz and saxophone rooms, five percussion rooms, two ballet studios, one drama studio with changing rooms and a multipurpose performance hall.

In total the 21.8 million euro development will span 1,362 m2 and is expected to open during the first week of 2015.

In addition, the existing building will undergo some renovations, moving the reception space and creating an “info desk”, installing a panoramic lift and moving the archives among other things.
