New speed camera cost 964 euros to repair
(ADW) The total amount of 964.24 euros is what it cost the government to repair a brand new fixed speed camera, vandalised on the N24 between Beckerich and Oberpallen, just days after being installed.
The cost was revealed by Minister for Sustainable Development François Bausch in his answer to a parliamentary question posed by DP deputy Max Hahn.
The kit to repair the column of the speed camera cost 356.62 euros while the bill for the new protective diaphragm amounted to 607.62 euros.
However the repair cost is low in comparison to what the vandal culprits face if caught. Those who damage public utility property in Luxembourg face a prison sentence between eight days to one year, plus a fine of up to 5,000 euros.
Bausch stated that if the vandalism continued, the penalty could be increased dramatically, specifically for the new fixed speed cameras.
