New TV station to set up HQ in Luxembourg
(CS/pley) Luxembourg company Adria News has announced that it will set up a new television station, with its HQ located in Luxembourg and studios in Belgrade, Sarajevo and Zagreb.
The television station, to be called N1, will be a multilingual 24-hour news channel aimed at the Balkan region, more specifically Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia and Kosovo.
Adria News CEO Ralf Manthey, revealed on Thursday that the station has an exclusive partnership with CNN. N1 will be able to use regional CNN content, with Manthey saying this will strengthen the station's competence in breaking news and crisis situations.
N1 will stand in direct competition with Al Jazeera Balkans, which started broadcasting in the region in 2011, with its studio in Sarajevo.
At the Luxembourg HQ programming decisions will be made. Finance and controlling will also be managed in the Grand Duchy, Mathey said on Thursday. Production offices will be located in Belgrade, Sarajevo and Zagreb.
The station is expecting to receive a broadcasting licence from the Luxembourg government this autumn.
Adria News belongs to United Group, which has two further subsidiaries, SBB and Telemach. United Group, supported by private equity company MidEuropa Partner, is one of the biggest cable television and internet providers in the region. It provides around 1.6 million connections, a solid platform for N1.
