(JB) It's official. Niederanven is the greenest commune in Luxembourg after every home and business converted to using sustainable energy.

Everything, from the street lamps to laptops, is being powered by 100% sustainable energy provided by Enovos.

It is estimated that the switch means the commune has reduced its carbon dioxide emissions by some 1,444 tonnes per year just by opting for a different energy programme.

The energy used comes under Enovos' nova natustroum energy package, of which 5% is generated from wind farms and 95% from hydro-electricity plants.

Niederanven has put environmental issues at the heart of its policies for several years. In addition to the transition to green energy, the commune also offers residents a collection and recycling service for all household waste and boasts its own composting centre.
