(CS) VLM Airlines is considering stopping its Luxembourg – London connection, currently marketed under the brand CityJet, in April 2014, according to labour union OGBL.

Staff were informed by the VLM Airlines about restructuring plans on Friday, according to the OGBL. The major company overhaul could see the cancellation of flights between Luxembourg and London, which currently leaves Findel airport twice a day for London City airport.

Some 15 employees in the Grand Duchy would be affected by the cancellation, and the OGBL has arranged a meeting witht he airline on December 27 to discuss the latter's plans.

The Belgian company based in London was bought in 2008 by AirFrance-KLM, and since 2009 its flights have been running under the CityJet brand.

Since acquisition by AirFrance in 2000, CityJet has been in the red, recording a 17 million euro loss last year alone.

The cancellation of CityJet flights between Luxembourg and London City would remove a competitor for Luxair, which runs the same route. Budget airline easyJet meanwhile flies to London Gatwick, while British Airways connects Findel with London Heathrow.
