Over 100 people fined days before restrictions likely loosened
More than 100 people were fined after police said they were caught violating Covid-fighting restrictions on gatherings and travel that could disappear within days.
Officers fined 104 people, 90 of them for not complying with curfew rules over a seven-day period, the police said on Tuesday. The 236 checks carried out by law enforcement officers found slightly more violators than the 90 fined at the end of May.
Current restrictions include a stay-at-home requirement between midnight and 6.00. Other offences that led to fines included not abiding by gathering limits in places such as shops and shopping centres, the police said.
Rules are expected to change this weekend, as current restrictions expire on Saturday. Prime Minister Xavier Bettel said last week he expected the parliament to approve loosening measures, including ending the overnight curfew and limits on open hours for restaurants and bars. Under new rules, retail shops would no longer need to restrict how many people can enter.
