Pedestrian killed in gruesome road accident
(ADW) A pedestrian was killed in a gruesome accident that occurred between Bertrange and Dippach, Tuesday night on an unlit part of the N5 road.
The incident occurred at about 8.30pm on a section known as “Dippecherbierg” when a man on foot was hit by a car where the speed of 90km per hour is permitted.
According to the car driver, travelling from Helfent near Bertrange towards Dippach, the pedestrian appeared from nowhere in front of the vehicle.
Darkness had already fallen, and apparently there was no way for the driver to stop in time. The impact was so great the victim was hurled through the windscreen and into the passenger seat killing him immediately.
The road was completely closed in both directions to traffic for some considerable time as horrifically, some body parts were scattered in a 300 metre area.
The car driver was physically unharmed in the incident.
The N5 route between the roundabout at Helfent/Bertrange and Dippach remained closed well into the night while measurements were made and a full investigation took place.
