(ADW) Police just over the border in St Vith, Belgium, attempted to stop a Luxembourg registered car on Sunday night, but the driver had no intention of stopping and fled the scene at speed.

Belgian police immediately informed their colleagues in Luxembourg of the incident, who responded by identifying the owner of the car, a resident of Beaufort, and eventually tracked down the vehicle and caught the culprits.

A thorough search of the car unveiled just why the driver and passenger had attempted to escape the officers; 77 grammes of marijuana and about 3 grammes of hashish were discovered.

The drugs find, alerted police to the possibility of further narcotics at the car driver's home. The property was searched with sniffer dogs but only remnants of marijuana were found. Both the drugs and the car were seized by order of the prosecutor.
