Police officer killed in road accident
(CS/str) A police officer carrying out a vehicle check in Dippach was hit by another car during the night from Thursday to Friday, suffering fatal injuries.
The officer, a mother of two small children, was checking a vehicle around 1.30am on Route de Luxembourg in Dippach, when she was hit by another car.
The first driver had been stopped because of a broken headlight. The owner kept the papers in the boot and the officer accompanied the woman to the rear of the car.
In this moment the other vehicle was signalled to stop by her colleague. At first, the man swerved to the left seemingly wanting to flee the scene. However, he then pulled the vehicle over to the right, hitting the 39-year-old police officer.
She was caught between the two cars and left in critical condition.
Police on Friday morning said that she had died of her injuries. The driver of the car was arrested by order of the prosecutor's office and was set to be presented to an investigating judge on Friday afternoon.
Unofficial sources on Friday said that the man was driving drunk at the time of the accident and was awaiting to stand trial for a previous driving offence.
