Anyone planning to travel through Belgium on Wednesday will want to avoid the rail service as workers plan a 24-hour strike.

Anyone planning to travel through Belgium on Wednesday will want to avoid the rail service as workers plan a 24-hour strike.

The Belgian rail strike begins at 10pm on Tuesday and ends the same time on Wednesday. During this period no trains will be in operation in the country or from Belgium to Luxembourg.

The strike action is being organised to demonstrate the growing discontentment among railway unions following the announced restructuring of Belgian rail operator the SNCB.

All Thalys and TGV trains passing through Belgium will be cancelled during this period, excluding TGB trains which stop at or depart from Lille, in France.

The Luxembourg rail service will publish a list of all affected trains via its mobile application and on its website www.cfl.lu. Alternatively, rail users can find out more by calling 2489-2489.

Travellers with a train booking during the strike period can receive a full refund.
