(CS) While outdoor festivals suffered from the bad weather over the weekend, Luxembourg's museums attracted record numbers during the “Invitation aux Musées”.

Almost 16,000 visitors flocked to the 42 museums across the Grand Duchy taking part in the annual museum festival.

The number was a significant increase from last year, when only 9,313 people joined the initiative, and even from the previous high in 2010 with 13,458 visitors.

The most popular museums were located in the capital, with the “Musée d'Histoire de la Ville de Luxembourg” attracting the most visitors (2,906), followed closely by the Mudam in Kirchberg with 2,802 visitors.

Completing the top five were the Musée National d'Histoire et d'Art (MNHA), the Dräi Eechelen museum and the Natural History Museum.

The most popular museum outside of the capital was the National Military History Museum in Diekirch, with 725 visitors.

The next edition of the “Invitation aux Musées” festival is already scheduled to take place on May 17 and 18, 2014.
