Update: Ryanair will be holding a press conference at Luxembourg Airport on Thursday May 19, meaning that the possibility of the airline coming to the Grand Duchy is ever more likely. Wort will keep you posted.

(ADW) After rampant rumours it is the news that many residents have been waiting for; low-cost airline Ryanair is due to start flights to and from Luxembourg beginning next winter, at least that's according to reports in local German press.

According to the regional German newspaper "Trierische Volksfreund" in its Monday edition, Markus Bunk, manager of Hahn Airport, stated that Ryanair will relocate from Hahn Airport to Luxembourg. He added that this will mean a significant decline to passenger traffic to the German airport.

If proved to be true, the news will confirm rumours that have been circulating for some considerable time following known negotiations between Frankfurt Hahn and Lux-Airport.

The possible Ryanair flight destinations from Luxembourg have not been confirmed yet, but it would be assumed that they will be the same as currently served by Hahn Airport. However no dates have been mentioned and only a vague "winter" has been quoted.

Should the Ryanair move prove to be true, this would be a further boost for Luxembourg as only last week Lux-Airport announced rapid passenger growth figures. In fact between January and March they rose by a whopping 22 percent compared to the same period last year.
