(AFP) South Korean giant Samsung isn't about to let the iPhone 5S outshine its own smartphone. Just after the launch of Apple's device in a 'Gold' finish, Samsung is generating buzz on social networks through its Galaxy S4 "Gold Edition," designed for Middle Eastern markets.

The first images of the phone were spotted on Samsung Mobile Arabia's Twitter feed and Samsung Gulf's Facebook page.

The "Gold Edition" actually includes two shades, dubbed "Gold Pink" and "Gold Brown," that will be available for the Galaxy S4 in the UAE. Samsung has unveiled the new colors just a few days after Apple began offering its iPhone 5S in a gold-tone version on September 20.

The success or failure of the "Gold Edition" in the Middle East will determine whether Samsung brings the new style to the rest of the world, and whether we can expect a market-wide trend towards a more "bling-bling" style for high-end smartphones.
