School closures extended beyond Easter holidays
Schools in Luxembourg will not reopen until after the Easter holidays and childcare facilities will remain closed during the vacation period, the education ministry said.
Luxembourg had previously said all schools would be closed until 30 March. But on Wednesday afternoon the ministry decided to extend this to 20 April, beyond the Easter holidays.
The European School – initially set up for children of EU institutions staff but which is now also open to anyone at a fee – will also restart on 20 April, according to a note on its website.
Luxembourg will do everything possible to make sure baccalaureate exams take place, Education Minister Claude Meisch said in a broadcast video on Wednesday.
Teachers have been giving pupils work to do via distance learning and this will continue, the ministry said.
