(CS/ml) Luxembourg student associations will continue to be welcomed at the annual university fair hosted by CEDIES, the Education Ministry said Tuesday denying reports put forward by the Pirate Party.

In a statement issued on Tuesday morning, the Pirate Party claimed that student associations would not be included in this year's “Foire de l'Étudiant” as part of plans to downsize the fair to just one hall at Luxexpo, giving room only to universities and employers.

Spokesperson Carlo Di Giambattista commented that a student fair without students was like a library without books, pointing out that the fair should not just be a marketing gig for universities and businesses.

Education State Secretary Marc Hansen swiftly denied the accusations.

The 29th “Foire de l'Étudiant” will be hosted in two halls at Luxexpo on November 12 and 13 this year, providing its usual mix of universities and other higher education institutions, student clubs and associations, as well as businesses looking to recruit.

A statement issued on Tuesday, however, did not rule out that the fair would be modernised for future editions. Together with student representatives and organisers the ministry hopes to make the fair even more attractive and more suited to the digital information age.

Every year, the student fair attracts thousands of young people with around 200 stalls providing information and guidance and what could come next.
